Summer Blast 2011 Has Begun!

Summer Blast Kid's Camp began today at the First Baptist Church of San Diego! We are excited that over 70 kids are at 1st B learning about Jesus and having a great time.

Please be in prayer this week for all the kids and volunteers and for our Lyndsey White, our Children Director. We want all these kids to know how much Jesus loves them!

Independence Day Oikos Luncheon This Sunday!

Bring your Oikos this Sunday for a Special Program

This Sunday, July 3, we'll be having a special potluck lunch with an Independence Day program. Come hear your favorite national hymns along with a great time of fellowship celebrating our nation's independence. It will start after the service and run till around 1pm.

This is a great time to invite your oikos (the people in your relational world), especially if you know people who have served or currently serve in the military, or people in the older generations. The purpose of this time is to develop relationships with the people in your oikos.

Can you help with the Potluck? We still need main dishes as well as other items. Also, we need people to help clean up afterward (and come early before church to take care of last minute set up.) If you can bring a dish or otherwise help, please email Carri Butler.

30 Days of Prayer and Fasting 2011 - Day 30

Today is our final day in this period of prayer together. As you finish, please consider fasting today, from food or something else that will remind you to pray today each time you are hungry or missing something you usually do.

Specifically, please pray for the rest of our staff today.

Pray for Rosa Yungen, our administrator, Carri Butler, our administrative assistant, Angela Sirota, our Lighthouse Director, as well as everyone who works at the Lighthouse. Please pray for thier health for them and thier families, and their spiritual growth and love for the Lord.

Also, pray for Pastor Scott and his family, for health and protection and growing faith.

Today, please pray for JR Nall and the music ministry at 1st B. You've probably noticed many new faces along with the people who have been serving for quite a while. Please pray for each person on the music team and others who will soon be joining. Also, be in prayer for this Sunday's Independence Day Oikos Party which will feature many people in our music team performing great national hymns and more at the potluck after church.

Please pray also for our Worship Director, J.R. Nall. Pray he and his wife Eri as parents to their son Corban and teach him to love God passionately as he grows up. Also, for his parents who are retiring and looking for a condominium in San Diego to live. Pray that they are blessed with an affordable place.

Day 27

Today, please pray for our student ministry. Summer camp at Hume Lake is next week for both Middle School and High Schoolers. Please pray for their time at camp, that lifelong commitments to Christ would be made by non-believing students and re-commitments by believers. Also, please pray for safe travels up and back.

Additionally, pray for our Youth Director, David Popovich as he is recovering from hernia surgery, and preparing the next year of Student Ministry @ FBCSD.

1 Timothy 4:12

¹² Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Day 28

Today, please pray for our Children's ministry. Not only is Summer Blast coming July 18 - 22, but many more existing things are being readied for the Fall. Please continue to be in prayer for that. The challenges for our kids department are the good ones to have! Among other things, pray for decisions to be made about a new class for 2 year olds (freeing up nursery space and volunteers for more and more infants on the way.) Also, pray for 30 volunteers who are now serving regularly in the Children's ministry.

Also, be in prayer for our Children's Director, Lyndsey White, and her husband Jason. We are thrilled to announce that Lyndsey is expecting, and their little one is due in December.

As we come to our final week of this period of prayer for our church, please plan to fast on Thursday, June 30. Many people will abstain from food on that day, however, please do as the Lord leads you and participate in some meaningful way. As we come to a close of this 30 day period, please spend each of the next few days in prayer for the upcoming year of our church. We have many exciting things being prepared, changes and new ideas. But we need prayer for God's blessing and endurance. Over the next few days, we'll be sharing prayer requests from church staff and ministry areas.

Our prayer team includes our staff and other leadership, as well as many others in our congreagation that pray each week for you and our church. Jesus Prays for Himself

Today, be in prayer for the Lighthouse Early Childhood Center and it's staff.

The Lighhouse has been a part of our church ministry for 30 years. Recently, God has opened up doors to allow us to have a better minitstry for parents and families of kids who are enrolled. Please pray that God gives wisdom to the Lighthouse Council, the church staff, and Lighthouse staff, and to Angela Sirota, the Lighthouse Director.

Most of all, pray for the kids who go there, that they would know Jesus as their savior, develop a lifelong commitment to being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Pray that way for their family (and oikos) as well.

Today, Father's Day, please be in prayer for our men's ministry, in particular Men's SteakOut, this Saturday at 5pm.

There are many things that we can be praying for related to our church. But let's not forget that praying for each other is what that means at it's most basic level - the "church" is not the building or the company, it's the people.

Today and through this weekend, pray for our church that we will be more Christlike in all we do - specifically, that we would be a forgiving people, full of grace. That prayer is one we can also say for ourselves.

Below is a video and scripture references that will help inspire your prayers today. Consider the amazing work that is being done all because this woman chose to forgive as Christ forgives us.

Mathew 5:44-46

⁴³ “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor^[i] and hate your enemy.’ ⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, ⁴⁵ that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. ⁴⁶ If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? FBCSD is excited to support a church plant right here in the San Diego area, 7 San Diego. (www.sevensdchurch.com). 7 is located in Lakeside and led by Pastor Jeremy McGarity.

7 was planted in 2008 and has been ministering in Lakeside since 2009. We are excited to be supporting 7 with the assistance of Transformation Ministries.

Please pray for the ministry of 7 San Diego and the leadership and family of Jeremy McGarity, as well as the many workers in that church who are very busy bringing the Gospel and showing grace to their community.

One of the missions we support is InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at UCSD. Not only do we support IVCF financially, but also, the campus at FBCSD is often used for student outreach events and leadership development.

This week, many of the IVCF staff from UCSD and other San Diego area campuses are meeting on the campus at FBCSD as they make plans for the summer and next school year. Additionally, all of these men and women on the IV staff are missionaries themselves and must raise support to continue to work on the campuses. Due to the current economy, many campus ministers are falling short of financial goals for the current fiscal year, which ends this month.

Today, please be in prayer for the leadership of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at UCSD and the other San Diego campuses. Pray that their fundraising goals are met and that they are focused on God's call for thier ministry next school year.

Also, pray for the students that are involved with IV, especially the student leaders, as they are away for the summer. Summer time is often a difficult time for students who struggle with temptations while away from regular fellowship. Pray for their strength and their ability to stand firm, and find Christian fellowship wherever they are.

Galatians 5:1

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

This year's Summer Blast is July 18-22 at the First Baptist Church of San Diego. Our desire for this week is to reach unchurched kids in and around our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to strengthen the faith of kids already attending FBCSD! Our theme this year is "Run the Race!"

Today (and until it's over), please be in prayer for these kids, for our Children's Director Lyndsey White, and all of the volunteers who will be helping.

Today, pray for the missional events going on this weekend at FBCSD, the Pajama Jam movie night and the Great American Bake Sale (More information here). Both of these events are designed to bring Fellowship opportunities within our church and with the people that God has placed in our relational worlds (oikos). The Bake Sale also addresses the issue of hunger, which is very great even in our own country. We must be aware of suffering and realize we are called to make a difference in the name of Jesus Christ.

Please pray that through these events, relationships of all kinds are stronger, that people will hear and see the Gospel through these relationships and that much will be done to address the issue of child hunger in America.

Today, please be in prayer for the San Diego Rescue Mission. There are over 10,000 homeless men, women and children in San Diego and the Rescue Mission is one of the leading agencies for help and recovery.

There are many ways to pray for them and you can find out more on their website at www.sdrescue.org. In particular, pray for the planning stages of "Sleepless in San Diego", an important event now in it's fifth year. The strategic planning meeting will be held at the First Baptist Church of San Diego later this month.

Today, please pray for FBCSD missionaries, Tim and Patti Long.

The Longs began their mission service in Baja California, Mexico, in July 1996. Invited to minister in leadership training by the Baja Baptist Convention Dios Con Nosotros (God With Us), they help in the acculturation process of the many people who relocate to the Baja Peninsula of Mexico from other areas in Mexico.

Currently, Patti serves as the special education teacher and consultant at the "Centro Pedagogico Dedaque" Baptist grade school in Tijuana. She also serves as an infant development specialist working with babies and young children with disabilities and their families. Patti teaches English at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in San Diego.

Tim works mainly with the theological education programs of the Baja Baptist Convention. He assists the director and administrator of the Dios Con Nosotros Seminary, working with extension classes in Ensenada, Tijuana, and the Mexicali Valley; with residential students at Mexicali; and in a continuing education program for pastors and church planters.

Today is also Day 5 of our 30 Days of Prayer and Fasting. The emphasis will change this week, but for today, please continue to give thanks to God for His great blessing in our church. Please keep our church in prayer and give thanks that God has used us for so many years.

Memorial Day Sunday

All of us are called to a certain life, a certain role as part of God's family. For many in our congregation, that call has included military service. That calling is not just for soldiers and sailors, but also for their families who also sacrifice much during due to their loved one's service. In many cases, all is sacrificed. Memorial Day is a national holiday created to honor American Servicemen and women and to honor those who have died while in the military.

Today, we have many in our church on active duty, both at home and abroad, and many veterans We also have many who have lost loved ones in past and current US wars and other service. This Sunday, we would like to acknowledge and honor those of you who Memorial Day has a personal connection.

This year, it is notable that the new Miramar National Cemetery has opened right across the 805 freeway from our church. I have already performed one ceremony there and I believe we will have new opportunities to serve military families for many years to come. I am excited about new ways God will call our congregation to serve related to military families. Please be in prayer about this.

If you currently serve, or have served previously, feel free to wear your uniform this Sunday if appropriate. For those who have lost loved ones in military service, we will remember with you and thank you for your sacrifice for each one of us. We are glad you are a part of our church family at 1st B.

Please feel free to invite others you've served with on Sunday, and those you know who need to be a part of a church family. We would be honored to be with them on this important day.

Welcome David Popovich as New Youth Director

I am pleased to introduce David Popovich as our new Youth Director!

David comes to us from Olive Drive Church, our sister church in Bakersfield, CA, where he served as the Middle School Pastor. His energy and love of kids is evident as is God's direction in his life. David recently graduated with a Master's Degree from Fuller Seminary and we are excited to have him as a part of our ministry together at 1st B.

We'll be hearing more about David in our service this Sunday. Please be in prayer for his ministry to our church kids and the many kids in our community that are connected with our youth group.

Generate Hope

On Sunday, Ashley told us about her work for Generate Hope, a comprehensive and uniquely designed long-term recovery program for young women who have been trafficked, prostituted, or otherwise sexually exploited. The issue of Human trafficking is only just now coming into awareness in the church and culture, but it has been a growing problem for a long time.

More people are slaves today in the world than ever before in history. 200,000 people are currently enslaved in the United States alone. San Diego is ranked 8th in US cities for human trafficking.

Greetings!

I hope you are having a great Christmas season!

On Sunday, I told you about a devotional I would send you related to our topic on Sunday from Revelation Chapter 3.   Here's the passage we studied:

"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.   Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.   Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

This devotional (link below) is part of a small group curriculum called "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan. It contains a list of 18 different descriptions of "Lukewarm People" with a scriptural reference for us on each one.   Since the book of Revelation begins with Jesus' concern for His church, I thought it would be good for us to be challenged to respond during these next few weeks before we continue with the book.

So, for the next 18 days, just take one of these thoughts and scripture references each day and have a devotion and prayer about it. Ask God to examine your heart and to draw you closer to Him. No doubt, this will be challenging for us all, but following Jesus is the most serious part of our life, so its worth it. Keep in mind, we all struggle, but God's grace through Christ not only brings you forgiveness, but also spiritual growth.

As we consider all there is to consider this Christmas, remember our little Advent Conspiracy slogan - Spend Less, Give More, Worship Fully. More about that on Sunday. See you then.

Oikos Christmas Party is THIS SUNDAY - Michael Jr.

I am so excited about this year's Oikos Christmas Party! You know why? Because I get to spend time with some people that I've been praying for all year: your oikos and mine! Your oikos is our primary missional group, and this is one of the easiest opportunities to build your relationship with the people that God has purposefully and providentially placed in your life.

This year, we are pleased to welcome comedian Michael Jr. Michael is a clean comedian with a solid Christian testimony. He has been on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno as well as many other television and other venues. He will not only be making us laugh, but he will also be showing us the way he uses his comedy to minister to the broken in prisons, homeless shelters, homes for abused women and kids, and elsewhere. We'll laugh a lot - and maybe cry a little too.

We call this event the "Oikos Christmas Party" because it is a party designed for your oikos - it's for them to have a good time with you, building a relationship that is necessary for you to make disciples. By getting to know them better, you'll be more ready to discover and meet needs they have; an opportunity to show them the love of Christ. You will also be a person they know who knows Jesus. As Peter reminds us, we must be prepared to give a reason for the hope we have in Christ. (1 Peter 3:15)

Please be in prayer for them now. If you haven't already, make a list of those people in your oikos, the people you interact with on a regular basis, and pray for them every day. Ask God for the opportunity to invite them and that God would be moving in your relationship with each other.

Keep in mind that there are further opportunities for you and your oikos. Our Christmas Eve Service is on December 24th. Also, we'll be starting "Financial Peace University" with Dave Ramsey in January. And also in January, our "Starting Point" class will begin again. This class is for anyone who is a new believer, seeker, or otherwise interested in the faith. We'll be promoting these things at the Oikos Party.

Tickets are available now for $10, but if cost is a problem we have quite a few complementary tickets. We want you to be able to invite your oikos, so if you need a comp ticket, please contact the office ASAP at info@fbcsd.com. I recommend that you purchase them for your oikos and give them as a gift. Think of it as an investment in your relationship with them. We do want everyone in your oikos to be able to go, so if you need to buy more tickets than you can afford, please let us know on Sunday at the Connection Table, we will have a few comp tickets for your oikos. Also, if you want to buy extra tickets for other people's oikos becuase you can easily afford it, please do this at the Connection Table as well on Sunday.

We need people to make Christmas goodies and hors d'œuvres. Baked goods and finger foods are perfect!

Baptism Testimony Video from September 19, 2010

We are so excited to see what God is doing in Ashley's life! See her testimony and baptism in the video below.

I should mention that we do not teach that a person is saved by baptism. Baptism is a symbol of regeneration, the work of the Holy Spirit in a person's life, the washing away of sin, the resurrection and new life of someone who believes in their heart that Jesus died and rose again for their sins, and who confesses with their lips that Jesus is Lord. (Romans 10:9-10) It is notable that when people come to faith in Scripture, and in modern experience, they seek to be baptized. I believe this is the Holy Spirit moving that person into trusting Jesus with their life, a life that is now a witness of the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

Also, re-baptism is not something to do often. We don't see it in Scripture. Through Ashley's testimony, a couple of people have rededicated their life to Jesus, but we won't baptize them again. Ashley's testimony is one of spiritual rebirth for the first time, in truth, so she was baptized like any new believer.

Ashley's testimony is not at all uncommon. Does her story sound familiar to you? If this resonates with you, do not be embarrassed! Instead, ask your questions and know the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have a class starting this Sunday at 9 am, Starting Point, that is for you. If you don't know Jesus, or aren't sure, even if you've been in church for a long time, please do not hesitate to come.

August Blanket Drive On Now!

Each week many Christian families face religious persecution in their home countries. Through our "Feed My Sheep" food bank ministry, we feed many families in San Diego each week. But along with food needs, we have many refugee families coming to San Diego each week who will need warmth for the upcoming winter.

Would you be able to help? We need new or gently used blankets, quilts, comforters and afghans for all bed sizes. Please bring to church on Sundays throughout the month of August.

Volunteer for San Diego CityFest

This morning at FBC was the next to last Executive Team meeting for the San Diego CityFest and Season of Service with Luis Palau. So far, over 450 churches and over 30,000 volunteers have participated in the Season of Service. The festival with Luis Palau is September 11 at Misison Bay, and voluneers are needed!

You can sign up to be a volunteer at www.festivalvolunteer.com for most areas needed. (Kids "Fun Zone" volunteers must register differently for security reasons - you can contact Lyndsey White at lyndsey@fbcsd.com for information after August 18. FBCSD is hosting 2 booths in the Family Fun Zone!)

Get Started in Psalms - Community 15 Day Reading Plan

We had such a great blessing from reading Proverbs together last month, so I want to encourage you to read Psalms with us, STARTING TODAY! Now, we're only going to do Psalms 1-15 for now, as we'll be starting a prayer series at the end of the month. But we'll do the all of them at intervals over the next many months.

So, starting today, July 12, I invite you to read one Psalm a day, just one chapter, for the next 15 days. All of these Psalms are very short, not even an entire page. This reading it isn't meant to replace your own devotions or other study, instead, its an opportunity to join with others in our church community in exploring God's word and what He is doing in our lives together.

This invitation isn't simply a charge to read the scriptures together, its an opportunity for us to share with each other what we are learning from the text, what God is saying to you, whatever is beneficial and encouraging. It is an opportunity to grow spiritually together, as a congregation, in relationship with God and with each other.

So here's the deal. Read one chapter a day, starting with Psalms chapter 1 on July 12. Then spend some time reflecting on what is most impacting to you, and pray through it. Then share your thoughts and questions or insights with people who are a part of our church community at First Baptist. This can be done in many ways including in person or on the phone. Many of you reading this are connected with our church Facebook page, and that is a great place to post your responses. You can post there, or you can post to various blog postings here.

However you are led to share, we know God is going to work through His word in those who participate. I believe God will use your sharing to build community with brother and sisters in Christ in our congregation, and to encourage spiritual growth for all who are a part of our fellowship. So, I urge you to not keep to yourself what you have learned - pray through it and then share with the community one way or another.

I am excited about this time in our ministry together. I know God will bless you through the inspiring Psalms you are about to read.

So, go ahead, take a break, read Psalms chapter 1, and see what God does...

Christmas in July: UT Article about Sudanese Refugee

This Sunday, we will start "Christmas in July", a food and sundry drive for Sudanese and other refugees living in San Diego. Since the weather this week feels like Christmas in San Diego, its the perfect time! We'll tell you more on Sunday morning, but we thought you might find this interesting...

An article in the Union Tribune was posted this week about one of the refugees we work with becoming a US citizen. The article will give you some idea of a common story for many of the people you are serving through our Feed My Sheep food bank.

Summer Blast: Day One - Out To See!

First Baptist Church of San Diego's annual kids camp (VBS) launched today with "Out To See!"

All week long, kids from FBCSD and around University City will be running around out campus - or sailing we should say... having fun while learning Bible verses, singing praise songs, and learning about Bible Stories and how much Jesus loves them. It is a great time for all, including the volunteers!

And, this Friday evening, we want YOU to get on board and join us for a fantastic BBQ on the patio to celebrate what God has done this week. Once again, Beach Pit Barbecue is providing food. Cost is just $6 per person. Please RSVP with Lyndsey Mercer at lyndsey@fbcsd.com.

Please pray every day this week for each of the kids, the volunteers and for Lyndsey Mercer, our Children's Director. Its an important week for everyone!

Skate Demo Outreach with Richard Jefferson This Thursday!

With school getting out soon and all the students looking forward to spending their free time skateboarding around town we thought why not have them skateboard at FBC?

That is why THIS THURSDAY, June 10, we are bringing out professional skateboarder Richard Jefferson to put on a awesome demo of his God given ability to bust some jaw dropping and eye pooping tricks!

While Richard is an amazing skater he is also a brother in Christ. We have chosen him to come and kick off our summer by not only skating with the students, but also by sharing his testimony of how he is a modern day prodigal son and is now back at home with the Father and loving every minute of it.

Richard has been skating now to share the Good News of who Jesus is and how others can be saved through a true belief in Jesus as their savior. God has been using his unique story to relate to students and share with them the truth about who Christ is and challenging the younger generation to live out their faith in Christ. See video below!

Please pray for this outreach and invite any High Schooler or Middle Schooler you know

Dear Scott,

As we continue our Sunday series through the book of First Peter, we are learning that we, "like living stones are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." Note that "stones" is plural. It is something that God is doing in us together.

For the next 31 Days, I invite you to do something with me, with each other, in community. Let's read the book of Proverbs together - one chapter a day for 31 days. "Have Your way in us"
What a great prayer to pray as His church. We belong to each other and through this unity we can demonstrate and announce His gospel of grace.

Here are some verses that I came across about God's desire for our unity. Meditate on these verses and consider how you can more reflect God's love through unity.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

"In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others" (Romans 12:5).

"Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body" (Eph 4:25).

"Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you" (2 Co 13:11).

"But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other" (1 Cor 12:24-25).

FBCSD Youth Group Participates in "The Cause"

On Friday, May 21 FBCSD’s Youth Director Brandon Hall, along with 15 other youth workers, students and professional surfers and skaters, helped put on skate demos at local high schools all around San Diego. The professional skaters who participated in the events are Christians, who use their talent of skating to share God’s love with teens.

After meeting together in the morning for prayer, the group split off to go to the different high schools. With help from the school’s Faith Club, Brandon coordinated the skate demo that took place at University High School, where the majority of the students in FBCSD’s youth group attend.

“We had a great turn-out of about 100 students who spent their lunch watching and listening to the skaters. It was awesome- so many students heard the gospel today, and that’s what this whole skate demo was about,” said Brandon.

The skaters not only wowed the crowd with their tricks, but even more so with their testimonies; having lived lives of fame and fortune, but choosing to leave it all behind to follow Christ as their Lord and Savior.

At the skate demo, Brandon and the UC High Faith Club also passed out flyers for “The Cause,” an event happening later that night for teens that featured professional athletes who shared their stories of overcoming tragedy and struggles through the power of Jesus Christ. “The Cause” was put on by San Diego CityFest with Luis Palau and the Chelsea’s Light Foundation™.

As result of the Gospel being presented, ten students gave their lives to Jesus. Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers, God answered in amazing ways.

Youth Ministry Working With "The Cause" Friday May 21

Here's 2 events to be praying about today and Friday.

Brandon Hall, our Youth Director, is working with the "Livin' it" team from San Diego Cityfest to promote "The Cause" to UC High School. Brandon serves the student run Faith Club at UC High School who is sponsoring a skateboard demonstration at the lunch hour at UC on Friday May 21. The purpose of the demonstration is to promote "The Cause", a Youth Outreach event that is part of the San Diego CityFest "Season of Service."

The second event is "The Cause" itself, which will be Friday evening at Horizon Christian Fellowship in North County. After a great demonstration from some of the top skateboarders, the Gospel will be presented to High School and Middle School kids from all across San Diego County.

This event is unique from other CityFest events in that it is joining with an event for the Chelsea's Light Foundation. With the recent tragedies of Chelsea King and Amber Dubios, awareness is being raised by this foundation for how to prevent these things in the future. But in the midst of this and the publicity is a remarkable opportunity to share the Gospel of JEsus Christ, and so CityFest has been invited to participate.

Please pray today for Brandon's leadership and the students that will be participating, along with anyone else involved. Pray for the safety of the skaters and that God would use the testimonies to reach people for Christ.

SAN DIEGO’S YOUTH GATHER TO SUPPORT CHELSEA KING AND AMBER DUBOIS

Professional Athletes and Musicians Partner with Campus Christian Clubs to Bring Awareness
(May 4, 2010) – Youth will gather at Horizon North County on May 21 with professional skateboarder Brian Sumner, professional surfers Bryan Jennings and Matt Beacham, NFL player Marlon McCree, and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher for an evening of music, extreme sports demonstrations, and presentations in support of Chelsea King and Amber Dubois.
The Cause is designed to raise awareness among middle and high school students about legislative and educational reform efforts by Chelsea’s Light Foundation™. The professional athletes will share with students about overcoming tragedy and will challenge them to make a difference in their own communities. Fletcher will be present in support of Chelsea’s Law, sharing how San Diego’s youth can make an impact.
This event is hosted by Horizon’s I-180, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, UrbanYouth Collaborative, and Walking on Water, a member of the San Diego CityFest with Luis Palau Livin It^®Team. The purpose of the Livin It^®Team is to engage youth in their own culture and to meet them in their questions about faith and their role within the community.

The Cause will take place on May 21 from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. at Horizon North County, 6365 El Apajo Rd in Rancho Santa Fe (92067). All youth are encouraged to attend.

We have 2 other directed prayer times coming from now through the end of summer. But do not take a break in your own life. Pray continually, talk to God about everything, be in His word daily and be prepared for His daily direction in your life. Pray for your oikos, our church, our community, our city and our world. And put your trust in Jesus Christ, giving thanks in all circumstances...

That would be you! God has called you to do amazing things! Pray about how God will use you now as a part of His Church, and prepare your mind for action!
